We’d like to gloat…

Team Shospec is leaping into the new decade with an armful of awards, and we’re pretty darn proud of ourselves! We worked our ‘behinds off’ in 2019 and were rewarded by being recognised for both our light steel frame and cladding work on a number of projects.

The Project: UKZN – School of Engineering Dining Hall

The Award
Master Builders Association 2019 Excellence Awards Small Works Highly Commended

Shortlisted
SAISC / SAFSA Steel Awards 2019 LSFB Category

We were part of the exciting and challenging project of the LSF structural framing for the UKZN School of Engineering’s dining hall.

LSF was the first choice for this project as the building needed to be up and ready for use in under four months; but thanks to speed of construction of LSF systems, we were able to complete the project in good time.

The challenge we faced, was adapting the LSF roofing panels to match the large cantilevered soffit beams at the entrances. Lucky for us we love a good challenge and created innovative LSF boxing for the corners of the roofs, cleverly enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the roof overhangs at the same time.

The Project: Department of Health – Townhill Office Park

The Awards

  1. SAISC Steel /SASFA Award 2019 LSFB Category
  2. Master Builders Association 2019 Excellence in Construction Sub-Contractors and/or Service Providers Highly Commended
  3. Top JV Special Projects winner: D Construction and SMS Design Architects/ Shospec

A JV project we are especially proud of and which kept us busy for most of 2019. The project scope and tender specifications were for full turnkey professional and management services for the design development, document supervision and construction for the DOH Townhill Office Park , of which we were very involved right from the get-go as a member of Top JV.

A critical part of the massive tender process was that we have a design philosophy for costing/ budgeting purposes and that we submit a fixed price. This kept all involved contractors and consultants on their toes as it was imperative that all construction and buildings were well planned in advance/ at the tender stage.

Right from the onset, the project was specified to be constructed from LSF (lucky for us!) with a big emphasis on environmentally-friendly/ green building initiatives. This entire project was completed in a phenomenal time frame of just 14 months (full turnkey)! Check out our website for the full low-down on this very exciting project

The Project: Artek 4 Architects Office Expansion – Durban

The Award
Master Builders Association 2019 Excellence in Construction (Commercial/Industrial Alterations, Additions and Renovations (Under R40m)

Shortlisted
SAISC / SAFSA Steel Awards 2019 LSFB Category

We successfully developed the new, open-plan ground and first-floor extension to Artek 4 Architect offices in LSF. The client was especially keen on having LSF for its speed of construction and green building attributes. There were no colossal challenges on this project because LSF systems are versatile, allow for speedy construction and simple but effective solutions, and in this case the proof is clearly in the pudding, (or rather the award ?)!
