Apples v Oranges

It’s no secret that the construction industry likes to do things its own way. We’ve already given you insight into our unique language but there’s also the whole myth about quoting per m2.

Most construction companies have a standard method for quoting for projects which is based on a per m2 price. This kind of “blanket approach” to quoting makes it difficult for LSF guys like us who do things slightly differently to the bricks and mortar kind of guys because there are a host of variables to consider between the different building methods that should be factored into the cost.

Then from the clients’ perspective, it’s also a little risky to quote in this way because it doesn’t really paint a full picture of what they can expect from the project.

Personally, we like to compare apples with apples and oranges with oranges – and it seems the Association of South African Quantity Surveyors (ASAQS) agrees because they’ve gone and explained it all a whole lot better than we can. Read it here.
